I had a thought-provoking conversation with a leader in our business this week about the pace of change and what this means for each of us and the business world.
Change is getting faster: everywhere and with compound impacts. We have lived through 25 years of digital internet led change. We should prepare ourselves for the next period of change to be more fundamental.
My favourite strategy – defend and grow
Defend is about resilience –
You buy one product from one place – crazy. Your workforce is all in the same city – crazy. You only have one water source – crazy. You can’t generate your own electricity – crazy. You only have one way to get your product to your customers – crazy. You have no stores – crazy.
Growth is about opportunity –
What will people need in the future? How do they access and use services in the future? What will be the future’s critical infrastructure? What can you do that helps people to be resilient?
In the last century saw the white heat of change, and we are about to do the same.
